Schaeffler Group Celebrates Grand Opening of Its New Plant in Mexico
President of Mexico, Felipe Calderon Hinojosa, recently joined Schaeffler Group owners Maria-Elisabeth Schaeffler and her son Georg F.W. Schaeffler in a festive ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the Schaeffler Group's new manufacturing plant in Irapuato, Mexico. Other guests of honor included federal ministers, customers, Governor of the State of Guanajuato, Juan Manuel Oliva Ramirez, and Germany's Ambassador to Mexico, Roland Wegener.

Axial, Not Radial - New FAG Bearing Concept with Axial Splines
An approximate 10 percent reduction in weight and a considerably simplified mounting procedure (compared with conventional radial splines) are the most significant advantages of the new FAG wheel bearing concept that is preloaded by means of axial splines in the axle journal. The use of the orbitally formed shoulder as a carrier for clearance-free axial gear teeth enables this wheel bearing module to be produced economically

Bearings Improve Fuel Efficiency
The Schaeffler Gruppe's INA and FAG brands have developed powertrain and chassis-based bearing solutions that are said to provide marked improvements in vehicle fuel economy and emission levels with little change to current production vehicle and engine designs. A new “twin tandem” 4-row angular contact ball bearing solution for SUV and light truck wheel-hub assemblies has reduced fuel consumption and CO2 output by as much as 1.5% (10.6 gal. and 149 lbs. of CO2 per year), according to Schaeffler. The design replaces each row of tapered rollers with two ball rolls, creating a 4-row ball system that eliminates rib friction and bearing friction by as much as 50%, resulting in a lower operating temperature and increased service life of bearing lubricants. The design is engineered to replace existing wheel hub assembly systems, thereby reducing the need to reengineer the vehicle hub system and limiting changes to existing manufacturing processes.

Highest Standards of Technology, Quality and Cost: The Schaeffler Group´s LuK Brand Receives Ford Recognition of Achievement Award

At the Ford World Excellence Award ceremony held recently in Dearborn, Mich., LuK - a brand of the Schaeffler Group - received the Recognition of Achievement award for its successful warranty reduction program in Europe.
The LuK initiative to reduce warranty cost comprises a number of effective measures, including strict quality control, detailed field analysis and the installation of an early warning system based on figures supplied by both customers and LuK's in-field service data.

Schaeffler Group South Africa Receives Volkswagen Award for Powertrain Commodity Supplier of the Year

During Volkswagen South Africa’s recent annual supplier recognition event in Cape Town, South Africa, the Schaeffler Group’s South African LuK division was awarded the 2007 Powertrain Commodity Supplier of the Year.
"This is the 16th time that LuK’s performance has been rewarded by Volkswagen and takes the total number of awards received from South African OEM’s to 71," said Len Terblanche, chief executive officer, Schaeffler South Africa.
